Lost and Found tennis racket

Nancy Brzeski lost her tennis racket on court 3 on 4/25 at the Community Courts. It was a black oversize Wilson, large head with a Wilson Logo on the strings. When she got home from playing, she found she had an old turquoise Wilson hammer 5.0 dual taper beam. If anyone has knowledge of either racket, email web@davistennisclub.org. 

[DTC] ALERT TO COMMUNITY COURTS AVAILABILITY

Dale Hersch has just passed on information on the high school's use of
the Community courts for the next four weeks. Starting tomorrow, May
7, courts 4-12 will be occupied from 9:00-12:00 and then from
1:00-2:15 excepting Thursday when they will only be used from
9:00-10:15.

[DTC] POTPOURI

MEMBERS- Out of Wednesday's DTC Board meeting has come a number of items of interest , we think, to members.

First- Next Monday through Wednesday, the Davis High  boys' tennis team will be hosting the year end Sectionals. Davis will begin its week on Monday competing against Turlock and the match will begin at 3:30.  Tuesday semi-final action will begin also at 3:30 and finally, Wednesday, the final will be held beginning again at 3:30. Coach Dale Hersch hopes that one of the finalists will be, guess who, Davis high boys.  Their opponents wouldl most likely be Jesuit. This would be the 9th time in the past 11 years that the two teams have met in the finals. Davis defeated Jesuit the last two years 5-4 in the finals. 

So, if you can, get out to the courts during the week and support our boys team in seeking their 5th consecutive section crown.

Second- There will again be a summer SATA League so if current captains or aspiring captains wish to field a team begin the planning and more information will be out in the next couple weeks. Competiion is expected to start around mid June. Go to Topdog and check out last summer's schedule to get an idea as to possible teams. http://www.topdogtennis.com/pages/leagues/season_information.asp?seasonid=420 It is expected that in addition to a fixed schedule for some teams that there will also be an increasingly popular flex schedule with times to be worked out with captains. Third- There have been a small number of complaints about the noice level in the clubhouse when a large number of members, and possilbly visiting teams we host, are socializing. So, the Board decided to put the concern out to the full membership.  If the response is strong then we would consider taking some cost effective sound dampening measures to soften the "din."

Fourth- Finally, there is an upcoming 2013 Special Olympics tennis tournament on the horizon and the information on that follows.

I hope that 2013 is starting out well for you.  I am starting to recruit for volunteers to help as officials for this year's Special Olympics tennis tournament and I wanted to touch base with you. The event should be similar to last year's as we will have a single shift each day. The event will be held at the Marya Welsh Tennis Center on the UC Davis campus.

Here are the dates:

• Saturday June 29, 2012 8:30 AM - 2:00 PM (lunch included)
• Sunday June 30, 2012 8:30 AM - Noon or Finish (lunch included)

[DTC] ALERT: COURT AVAILABILITY, APRIL 12

The high school boys' tennis team is hosting a tournament on April 12. They will require 10 courts from 11:30 am to 8:00 pm. Dale says there should be some great tennis with Gunn of Palo Alto and De La Salle of Concord attending. So, if you can, head over and support the team while enjoying some good action!

[DTC] COURT SQUEEGEES

This to notify all members about the court squeegee policy. There are currently six functioning squeegees with three out on the courts and three in the clubhouse. The ones in the clubhouse are available for tournaments and team needs with access provided by either Board members or team captains. It is the responsibility of the users to see that the clubhouse squeegees are returned after use. With good cooperation, and if the squeegees are well treated, then this policy will continue and they will continue to serve us for some time.

[DTC] UPDATE ON 2013 DTC MEMBERSHIP LIST

OK, wanted to update the 2013 DTC membership list with another
mailing to the old 2012 list. This should help as a final reminder for
those playing in Leagues and anyone else who may question whether
they've renewed. We are currently as of 2/28/2013 at 102; last year we
ended up with 168 so I'm sure there are some more of you out there
that haven't quite got around to signing up. If anyone has any
questions regarding their membership, please contact me.

As many of you know, theSATA league matches begin this weekend. Play
takes place both weeknights and weekends, so the court availablity
will be affected. You can check on specifics by clicking on the
Community Courts Calendar which is found on the upper right of the
website under "Renew your membership today!" The season runs through
May 31.

SO, WHEN YOU WANT TO PLAY ON THE COMMUNITY COURTS, CHECK THE CALENDAR

[DTC] ANNUAL MEETING AND SOCIAL

MEMBERS- 

The annual meeting where DTC Board members are nominated and voted on will be this Friday, Febuary 8 at the Clubhouse beginning at 6pm. In conjunction, weather permitting, we will hopefully have some fun tennis and regardless some good food and drink. All members are encouraged to attend and if outdoor activities can happen, they will. Feel free to bring any food and drink to contribute to the festivities.  Anyway, come and meet the Board and other members, register your vote and enjoy the end of the week party.

[DTC] 2013 Membership list

Though by sending out current active membership, it would serve as an
additional reminder to members to renew for 2013. Last year we had
160+ members and, to this date, we have between 55 and 60 memberships
so much work to be done, especially for those who plan on playing
spring Interclub. Chris and I will look for another upsurge in
renewals very soon.
